No. II/98-DBA-II : The Central Government hereby makes the following further amendment in the Notification of the Government of India in the erstwhile Ministry of Industrial Development Notification No.6/26/71-IC, dated 23^rd July, 1971, namely, the Transport Subsidy Scheme, 1971 as published in the Gazette of India Extraordinary Part 1, Section 1, dated 27^th July, 1971, as amended from time to time :

1. In para 2 of the said Scheme under the heading "Commencement and Duration", the following shall be added at the end :

    "The Scheme shall, however, remain in operation till 31^st March, 2007 for the North Eastern Region."

2. In para 6 of the said Scheme, after sub-para (xii-a) the following sub-para (xii-b) shall be inserted namely :

    "The North East Development Financial Corporation (NEDFi) shall act as a nodal agency for release of transport subsidy on the basis of the recommendations of the State Level Committee, for the North East Region, as per existing terms & conditions of the said Scheme."

• Focal point for the scheme is Siliguri ( West Bengal)

• Raw materials brought from outside the NER will get 90% of the transport subsidy ( equivalent to Rly freight) similarly finished products sold out side the NER shall also enjoy the same benefit.

• Raw materials purchased from outside Assam but from the any States of NE Region will enjoy 50% transport subsidy.

• Finished products sold outside Assam but within the any States of the North East will enjoy 90% of transport subsidy.

• Rate of transport subsidy for the Raw materials / Finished products within the NE Region shown as below :

"Keeping in view the potential of the North Eastern Region for development of the Electronic Industry the Government have decided to grant transport subsidy @75% on the air-freight incurred for transportation of electronics components/products by air to and from Calcutta. The transport subsidy would be admissible @ 75% from Calcutta upto the airport nearest to the location f the industrial unit and thereafter @90% on the movement of goods transported by rail/road upto the location of the industrial unit & vice versa. These liberalisation come into effect from 1-3-1987". ( No.11/1/85/DBA/II dtd 17-3-1987. Government of India).
